Girtys Run flows into the Allegheny River upstream from Herrs Island after coursing through Millvale in concrete culverts. It has frequently flooded the Borough Business District. It is 13.4 square miles and drains parts of six municipalities: McCandless, Ross, Shaler, West View, Reserve, and Millvale.
The Girty's Run Watershed Association was formed in recent years to promote a just and healthy Girty's Run watershed system through advocacy, education and conservation.
